Fun Volleyball Drills

One challenge that every sports coach eventually must face is making practices fun. While repetitive drills are necessary for building skill and muscle memory, when players become accustomed to certain drills they are more inclined to turn their minds off and go through the motions. Instead, coaches must continually rotate drills and add fun and exciting new ones to their practice line up to keep players focused and sharp. Feel free to use one of the following fun volleyball drills at your next practice to break up the routine and challenge your players in new ways.

Bingo Volleyball

For the first of these fun volleyball drills you will need a large sheet of white paper and a black marker. Begin by brainstorming a list of some of the crucial skills and moves that your players need help with such as perfect dig, block, spike, etc. Once you've come up with at least 25 draw a bingo card on the sheet of paper, filling each of the squares with one of the skills and post it next to the court.

Now divide your team into groups of six for scrimmage. The teams play against each other as if it were a regular match with one key difference: each time they successfully execute one of the aforementioned moves, they earn that spot on the bingo card. Players must call the move before the execute it to earn the spot on the card.

The goal is to make a line of 5, at which point all members of the team must yell "Bingo". This game causes players to come up with a game plan that successfully incorporates the necessary moves to make a line of 5, which can often be radically different from their normal game plan.

Hit the Deck!

When searching for fun volleyball drills remember that the emphasis does not always have to be on hitting the ball. Volleyball requires many other skills that are often less recognized, such as the ability to drop and hit the floor without fear or hesitation. The following drill, which we call "Hit the Deck", will help your players overcome that hesitation.

Begin by having your players jog on the spot. Either at the sound of your whistle or when you yell the words "Hit the Deck", all players must drop to the floor instantly. If you'd like to up the competitive spirit of the drill, you can enforce a rule where the last player to hit the floor is out.

Building Defensive Toughness

The third of the fun volleyball drills I like to use to change up my practice routines is a simple variation on 2-on-6. For this drill, one team has 6 players and the other has only 2. To begin with, have the strongest players on your team as the outnumbered ones.

The 6-player team begins by serving the ball within two steps of a member of the 2-player team. The goal is not to try and humiliate the 2-player team; rather the goal is to have them get down and play defense. You'll really begin to notice your players develop their defensive toughness after running the fun drill at a couple of your practices.

How to Hit Longer Drives

A longer drive off the tee is something every golfer desires. Adding 10 or 20 or even more yards to your tee-shot can dramatically shave strokes off of your game and that is the focus of this short golf lesson.

Whether you're playing golf for money as a professional, for bragging rights or just for fun, an extra ten to twenty yards with your driver can vastly improve your ability to score well. You might be a long hitter already or you might be a player who doesn't hit it long yet, but you can add at least 10 yards to your drive easily with a simple drill that anyone can learn to practice.

For those of you, who often grab your 3-Wood or use an iron off the tee because you're afraid of going for the long ball, listen up. I understand your pain! It is extremely frustrating to try and hit a perfect driver only to be deep in the rough to left or the right of the fairway or who-the-heck knows where.

But before you give up on it and convince yourself that real golfers "Drive for show, and putt for dough" listen to what Greg Norman had to say about the subject: In his book SHARK ATTACK he wrote, "Don't ever sell me on that line. If you can't put your tee-shot in play, the smoothest stroke in the world won't help you enough. To my mind, the most important shot in golf is the drive".

Alright then, let's get started. Grab your driver and put on your normal grip.

Now release the last 3 fingers on each hand (for those of you slow learners like me, we're talking about the pinky, ring and middle finger on each hand). You should now have only the index finger (pointer) and thumb of each hand on the club.

With your left thumb and pointer, start your swing by pushing the left side of the grip back, adding just a bit of shoulder and hip turn.

Notice how the driver head extends naturally back along the target line and the toe of the club is pointing up. Your swing will now be on line and on plane and will automatically give you the right feel and easily add more than 10 yards to your tee shots with greater accuracy.

Keep drilling this until you really get the feel for it. Start slow with the driver and practice with all of your clubs. Keep this slow pace and visualize what it is you are doing. When done correctly, repeatedly and with focus, your body will remember what to do and you'll be getting the clubface in proper position time and again.

Make sure to start with your hands and then add your shoulders and hips naturally.

Too much shoulders takes the clubhead back on a shallow plane, that's why starting the club back with just your index finger and thumb, prevents you from manipulating the club off plane and helps the club extend back on that natural arc we're all looking for in order to stay on plane.

I just know that if you spend a few minutes working on this you will reap the benefits pretty quickly and start adding 10, 20 or more yards to your driver with greater accuracy.

Free Girls Softball Fastpitch Drills

Any softball coach or player who wants to learn more softball drills can easily find a lot of drills in books and videos and on the internet. Most of these drills cost money but some of them are free. These free girls softball fastpitch drills are very good. Most of the free drills focus on throwing, fielding, and hitting the ball.

Throwing the Ball

The position of a player determines the most common types of throws that player will have to make. For example, a 3rd baseman will need to make hard throws all the way across the diamond to 1st base while a right fielder will most commonly have to make a longer throw from the outfield to a cut-off man near the infield or to a base.

The Before Inning Warm-up Drill

All softball coaches and players know what players do before an inning begins. The first baseman throws a grounder to each infielder while the outfielder stands in their positions and play catch. This is a common drill during games but it should also be performed everyday in practice.

The Relay Throws Drill

The Relay Throws Drill is another one of the good free girls softball fastpitch drills. This drill involves 2 outfields lining up on each side of an infielder. Each player should be about 100 feet apart.

Fielding

It doesn't matter how well a team can hit and pitch if the team can't play good defense in the field. The key to playing good defense is for every player to be fundamentally sound. A great drill for this the No Glove Fielding Drill.

The No Glove Fielding Drill

Just as the name suggests, this fastpitch softball drill requires players to field the ball without a glove. The drill can be run with bare hands or with a board that is specially made for the drill and worn on the fielders' glove hand.

Players can either field balls hit to them by the coach (more advanced) or they can field balls rolled to them. They need to concentrate on keeping their upper bodies square with the ball (get in front of the ball), bending at the knees, and cradling the ball with two hands into their body.

Once players master the technique of fielding without a glove then they will find fielding with a glove much easier.

Hitting

The only way for a player to get better with hitting the ball is for them to actually hit. Players can either hit a ball off a tee (to work on the basics) or they can hit pitches. Also, a part of hitting that is often overlooked is bunting. Players should be required to lay down at least 3 bunts every time they take batting practice (BP). If possible, players should take BP every practice and before every game.

Email is pretty straight forward. You type what you want to send, add the address of the person you wish to receive your message, and then you click the send button. In a matter of seconds, that person can then click on that message in their inbox and read what you have to say. There are other features on email however, that can be both extremely useful and also very dangerous. You should be sure you know how to use these features, especially the BCC and CC options.

Some people make huge mistakes when sending out emails. These could be business related, but they can also be about personal matters as well. There are times when people choose to send out mass emails. These are going to more than one person. The mistake some make is made when they reply to that email with something less than favorable to say. Instead of hitting the 'reply' button, they hit the 'reply all' button. When they do that, what they have to say goes to everyone on the list rather than just the sender. Almost everyone makes this mistake at least once.

CC on email is much like CC on business letter communications. This means carbon copy. When you add email addresses to this field in your email, you are sending a carbon copy of that email to each address. These addresses are going to be visible to everyone that gets the email. Unless you are the alpha dog, the dog WILL become the alpha dog. He will nip at his other pack members. He may snarl, growl, and otherwise show the others that he IS in charge. So first of all, you must establish your position as alpha dog, but you don't do it by hitting the dog. Hitting is not a language that a dog understands.

When the dog misbehaves or transgresses, simply stop the behavior and roll him over onto his back. Hold him there and stand over him while saying "NO" firmly and in a forceful TONE of voice. Volume doesn't count. The only thing that matters is TONE. The next thing to do is show him what the correct and acceptable behavior is and then lavish praise on him when he complies.

How to Hit Your Irons - Broken Down Into Five Easy Steps (These Worked For Me)

Learn how to hit your irons effectively when you break down the swing into five workable parts. Many average golfers usually have one or more areas of their swings that is causing issues. I had a problem with a wicked slice and could not hit an iron to save my life.

I finally got help with correcting my slice and learning how to hit my irons. Here is the five parts of a golf swing that when cleaned up will help eliminate your swing issues.

1. Setup is step number one. When addressing the ball it is important to remain relaxed and tense free. You should have a slight bend in the knees with your back straight while you bend at the hips. The position of the ball is important to playing well. The longer the irons the further toward the lead foot the ball should be placed. For wedges and short irons the ball should be toward the trailing foot.

2. The grip should be loose because a grip that is too tight will cause you to miss hit the ball. I always had too tight of a grip which caused miss hits and my hands to hurt by the time I got to the back nine. Just loosening my grip took seven strokes of my game.

3. The back swing should be slow and steady and not fast and jerky. Take the club back straight until the club shaft hits 9 o' clock and then begin to coil the upper body, keep the lead elbow straight and keep your eye on the ball.

4. The down swing should start with your weight being transferred onto the front or lead foot. The weight transfer should start always with the hips and not the shoulders and arms. Furthermore, keep the trailing elbow tucked close to your side.

5. The follow through will tell you a lot about how you are hitting the ball. Your swing should be a sweeping motion and the follow through should finish your swing arch.

Fixing your golf swing issues are easier to do when you break the swing into five parts to understand why you miss hit the ball. Once you understand why you miss hit take the next step and get help to eliminate them.

Your vocal range is something that you must be familiar with when you are serious about becoming a singer. Improving upon your range is more about being able to hit every note in your vocal range with conviction. Thus, you are able to sing any song within your range with clarity and without struggling to reach those notes at the ends of your range.

When you can sing your complete range without struggle you have the ability to choose a wider variety of songs and to put on performances with confidence. Even legitimate free samples will still keep you on their mailing lists long after they send your sample. In fact in most cases it's the reason they offer something free in the first place. But this is easy to manage if you know how. First set up a separate e-mail address that you will only use for requesting free samples. You can't give a fake e-mail address because you will have to click links in confirmation e-mails before they will mail to you. Next, think up a pseudonym and use it as your name when you are requesting freebies. The fake name is helpful because it makes sorting junk mail easy, and keeps your real name off those pesky commercial mailing lists.

Where to look

Now that you know the basics of how real free samples work, it's time to cover how to find them. There are many different sites that all serve the same purpose, finding real free samples and letting their visitors know where they are. It is important to understand that these freebie sites are not the party actually offering the free samples. The websites you will become familiar with will actually be more like the yellow pages making the freebies easy to find. How do they find the freebies for their site you might ask? By checking out what the other freebie sites are linking to. What this means is that real freebies spread very very quickly. One freebie site will find a sample and post a link to it. There you will be able to type in your fake name from earlier, your real address, and your separate e-mail address and save all of it.

Then when you are on a website asking for that information you only need to click the auto-fill button on Google toolbar and the request form will be filled out for you automatically! This means that without auto-fill it may take over an hour to request 10 free samples, but with it that same amount of request could take under 5 mins. Then it's just a matter of setting aside 5-10 mins every day to request every new sample you see. If you are consistent about it you will have more than enough requests to swing the odds in your favor. Then your daily visits to your mail box will be like an exciting free sample lottery. Some days you'll win and there will be a freebie for you. Other days there will be nothing. But it's always exciting and you never know what you are going to get!

Dimensional Mail Most Effective Direct Response Strategy For B-to-B Sales - Part 1

Want to boost response in your B-to-B mailings? Need to break into new markets, find a new application for an existing product to a new audience? Need to reach out to hard-to-get-at executives and get their attention? Need to increase your response rate to the tune of 300% while increasing ROI?

The answers might be found with one of your vendors, but it's not your list broker, your printer, or your data processing shop - it's at your packaging producer!

The average senior executive receives a minimum of 8,000 messages of various types a day, either through passive billboards and building signage, e-mails, pop-up websites, product packaging on shelves in stores, television, background radio, newspapers and magazines, mail in the in-box, and other sources.

If you want your message to stand out, you had better be prepared to do some homework on your target audience, and give them something they will remember and find actionable.

One of the best ways to show that you really know your target is to send them something they find valuable. Of course, you could send them each a few one hundred dollar bills in an envelope, and if the envelope looked like "unwanted" mail, the only one who would gain would be the clever garbage man who sifted the trash! Even if you send something that is exactly on track, you still have to get it to the recipient and they have to find it intriguing enough to open it. They won't find the value and all that research is wasted unless they get past the "messenger".

Studies commissioned by a major mailer carried out by a well-known research firm(us)have revealed that boosting open rates has direct correlation to sales carry-through. You had probably drawn that conclusion yourself through simple instinct and deduction, but the study proves it beyond a doubt. So now, based on that, the challenge becomes more basic - get their attention and make it intriguing enough to be sure it gets opened, and sales will follow. Well, not quite.

The study of 50 top executives at commercial companies of over 1000 employees along the East Coast made clear that while they were obviously going to have a better chance of purchasing something from a solicitation if they opened the package, those odds only increased by an estimated 20%. That boosts your overall response by .05% - not much help.

One of the more powerful drivers was brand - if they had heard of the firm on the envelope, they were more than 65% more likely to open it than if it came from an unknown source. Previous studies had shown that it takes from 5-8 repeated exposures to yield recognition from an unknown audience. It would then follow that if you send your best and most effective piece first, it stands little chance of getting any attention at all. If you warm-up the prospects to build recognition with simple brand-oriented messaging first, your big guns stand a better chance of being effective and well-received. Clearly, a more in-depth approach and a solid plan based on research is needed. One hit wonders need not apply.

The most revealing statistic to come out of the study was one regarding outer wrapper and its relevance to the target. Over 85% of the executives in the study said they would be more likely to open an item if it was especially large, odd-sized, or appeared to have come by a delivery service other than the U.S. Post Office - FedEx, DHL, even UPS fared better than the USPS to convey urgency. Some companies have gone to great expense to reproduce a faux FedEx envelope as a carrier to great initial success, but only for a short period of time, based on the other revealing statistic from the study. More on that later. These would have to be produced on a huge scale to gain any price economy, and the nature of B-to-B marketing trends toward smaller mail quantities, due to tighter targeting, reduced availability of good lists and market intelligence, and lack of manpower to do follow up necessary to close large-scale sales on high-dollar services and goods.

The downfall of this approach is two-fold:

First, the disappointment factor is very high - expectations are raised when the courier envelope appears on their desk, but upon opening it, they discover they have been "duped" by another irrelevant offer - into the trash it goes.

The second factor is lack of replicability. If you have several executives on your list from the same firm, spreading out the title selects to hit a broader spectrum within each firm, at the same address, receipt will likely occur on the same day at the same time, based on the nature of postal delivery and internal distribution schedules at large enterprises. Execs noted that if anyone lower on the org chart than themselves also received one, it was deemed of lesser importance than it appeared, and into the trash it went. A byproduct of this is that fatigue happens very quickly, and response decline is at least as rapid - recipients are now wary of the "faux FedEx" and are more resistant than ever to opening them. In a sense, they are the antibiotic of the direct response world - they work great for a short while, but the organism develops and immunity to it and it is less and less effective over time. Our research shows that these packages fatigue at an incredible rate, and recapture rates for mailing other offers is almost nil.

Clearly, a better plan is needed. Now that we've outlined the challenge, we'll need to address the strategic approach to overcoming it. When using dimensional mail, the lesson is "Live up to the promise of the package".

Is the story timely?

Is the topic on everyone's mind these days? Did it just
happen? For a story to be newsworthy it must contain

publishing schedule (weekly, monthly, quarterly), every
story you publish should deal with events that

Is the story significant?

Why is it important? Why does it matter? Why does it

usual. But if one of your guests turns out to be a client
from years ago who has since gone clean, gone
straight and is now a millionaire business owner who
mentors youth, and has returned to your soup kitchen
to tell you he's thankful for your help years ago, that's
unusual.

Is the story controversial?

Are your volunteers chained to the railings of the
Indonesian Embassy in Washington? Has your
executive director gone on record as saying the only
kind of safe sex is that between a man and a woman
who are married for life and monogamous?
newspapers , magazines, tabloids and television and
radio talk shows, as you know, thrive on controversy. If
you can find a story that is controversial but also in
good taste, and relevant to your case for support, you
have a newsworthy story.

Direct Mail Fundraising Letters - Mail an Envelope, Not a Postcard

I have on my desk a direct mail fundraising envelope that I have never opened. And never will. Perhaps you can learn a lesson from its failings.

The offending article was mailed by the Canadian Red Cross. It is a full-colour envelope, 6.5 inches wide and 5.75 inches tall, with a window. The envelope promotes the organization's lottery.

This envelope fails most of the tests in my book.

Here's why.

Test #1: Does the envelope intrigue?

No. This envelope gives everything away. It features no fewer than six photos: a sports car, sailboats, a bunch $100 bills, the Coliseum in Rome, another sports car, and the Taj Mahal. You get the picture. You don't have to guess at the contents of the envelope.

The headlines are equally blunt:

"More prizes!. . . More Choice than ever before!"

"Big prizes! Big cause!"

"The big red. The New Ontario Lottery!"

This envelope fails the test of intrigue. Outer envelopes must intrigue readers to open them, not give everything away.

Test #2: Does the envelope appeal to noble motivations?

No. This envelope appeals to greed and covetousness. Those are short-term motivators. People who give you a donation in exchange for a chance to win a mansion or Mercedes Benz are not supporting your mission. They are not embracing your cause.

Test #3: Does the envelope give the reader a reason not to open it?

Yes. This envelope gives you two reasons to throw it away unopened. One is a phone number: "Call NOW to order tickets 1 800 850 5090." Another is a website: http://www.redcrosslottery.ca. If all you want your recipient to do is phone you or visit your website, mail them a postcard, not a letter.

Your outer envelope has two goals only. Deliver your package contents intact. And persuade the donor to open your envelope. Don't give yourself away. And don't send the donor somewhere else.

How to Choose the Right Email Setup For Your Email Accounts - POP, IMAP, Or Webmail

There are three ways available to access your email with most website hosting accounts. You can choose from POP, IMAP, or Webmail. Which one is best for you? The overview below will explain the basics about how each works and when it might be a great choice for your email access.

POP: POP stands for Post Office Protocol and it's easiest to understand if you think of the server as your post office. Mail is sent, the post office (server) receives it, and then your mail program (Outlook, Eudora, etc) goes to the post office and picks up your mail. The mail is then saved on your computer and is no longer on the server. Just like when you receive a letter in the mail, you end up with the only copy of that letter, and you don't need to go back to the post office to read your letter. If your mail is critically important I recommend running regular backups of your mail program if you use POP.

POP works well if:

* You use one computer to access your email.

* You are the only one who needs access to the email account.

* You have a dialup connection or sometimes work offline and want access to your email without being connected to the internet. (Not required, POP works great with always on connections like DSL or cable as well.)

* You want to keep your mail stored on your computer so you can easily back it up to an external drive or online service like Mozy.

IMAP: IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. IMAP works in an "online" type mode where you connect to the server for your mail and all mail remains on the server, instead of being transferred to your computer*. You can create folders on the server and move mail around, delete mail, etc. and it's all being done on the server. With IMAP you can then access that mail from multiple computers. Depending on your connection speed and how much mail is stored in your account IMAP can be slow to access. All mail is backed up by your host whenever they run backups. I recommend also keeping a local backup of your hosting accoung if your mail is critically important and not depending on the server backups. (There are some IMAP programs which can be set to allow you to save a copy of the email on your local computer. You'd need to contact support for your email program to find out if your program supports this.)

IMAP works well if:

* You need to access your email regularly from multiple computers.

* You are on a fast, always on type of internet connection (DSL, Cable, or similar).

* You regularly clear out old email and are able to keep the email in your box under the limit for your account (never deleting email that's stored in an IMAP account can cause you to hit your account limit and make mail bounce back to senders until the limit is changed or old mail is deleted).

Webmail: Most website hosts offer a choice of different programs clients can use to access their email through their web browser. Your host may offer Horde, SquirrelMail, Roundcube or other options. With webmail all mail stays on the server and you can access it from any computer that has an internet connection and browser. You login to webmail through your browser and can read and send messages through it.

Webmail works well if:

* You want to be able to access your email online from multiple computers.

* You would rather check your mail in a web browser and not deal with configuring a program on your computer to handle mail via IMAP or POP.

* You regularly clear out old email and are able to keep the email in your box under the limit for your account (never deleting email that's stored in an webmail account can cause you to hit your account limit and make mail bounce back to senders until the limit it changes or old mail is deleted).

* You are traveling and want to access email while traveling.

Email setup can vary from server to server so be sure to check with your host for any specific email access questions.
